Have you heard of Paul Salopek? He is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and a National Geographic Fellow who began a seven year journey this year, on foot, to trace the migrations of people out of Eden, in present-day Ethiopia, through the Middle East and Africa, across North America, and finally ending up in South America. His planned route is shown below.
