Hello! It is time for our last UK post! To pick up where we left off in the previous post, Jake and I visited Kew Gardens, which are the Royal Botanic Gardens of London. They were absolutely beautiful and not very crowded, as they were a longer underground/metro ride outside of the London city center. After being in city after city, we definitely appreciate the green spaces we encountered.

London (Part 2)
Hello! After our first day in London on our day trip, we had a blast exploring many other parts of the city!
On our second day in London, we began our trip to the British Museum, which includes a huge collection of artifacts from the Ancient World, essentially perfectly linking up to Jake's curriculum of his 6th grade Social Studies class. We saw a variety of exhibits ranging from Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome! It was very interesting!
In the gift shop, there was a book that features a main character named Jake!
After spending most of the day at the British Museum, we went to the Westminster Abbey. While visiting during the day is incredibly expensive (roughly $25-30 per person), every evening at around 5pm they offer a free service called Evensong, in which you can listen to the choir sing some hymns in the cathedral. While you aren't free to explore the entire cathedral and you can't take pictures inside, we loved being able to listen to the voices of the choir ring out throughout the entire church. It was stunning (and we definitely appreciated saving our money!) After the service, we took some pictures outside of the abbey. There was even a sculpture on the from of the church of Martin Luther King, Jr., among other martyrs of the 20th century.

London: Windsor Castle, Bath, and Stonehenge
Hello! It has been a few days since I last posted, but Jake and I are currently waiting at the Rome train station for our train to Naples. Unfortunately, there was a strike this morning so our train is now in 3 hours, but at least there is an internet connection and I can blog!
On our first day in London, we did a day trip sort of tour to visit some sites in the western part of England, such as Stonehenge. We knew we wanted to go, but in the planning stages of the trip, it seemed pretty difficult to get there, so we figured the bus trip was the way to go. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and we were able to see some great sites. The only downside for us is that Jake and I like to take our time at the places we visit, so we did have to rush through the sites we visited to make it back to the bus on time.
After we left the London Victoria Coach Station, our first stop was Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle is one of the Queen’s residences, and apparently it is her favorite, as she loves the beautiful gardens she has surrounding the castle. It is about 45 minutes outside of London as well, so I suppose it would offer a respite from some of the hubbub of London. Anyways, here are some of the pictures from the castle grounds.

Travels in the UK Video
Hello! I have just finished making the United Kingdom video of some of our trip photos and video. You will certainly recognize about half of the photos from previous UK blog posts, but as I have not currently posted any London posts, those pictures will all be new! Hope you enjoy!

Liverpool
Hello! The next step on our trip was to spend a couple days in Liverpool! We had beautiful days full of blue sky and a lot of Beatles related activities, as you will be able to tell from the upcoming pictures! One general trend that Jake and I mentioned several times during our stay in Liverpool was its similarity to Chicago. Take a look!
We stopped for dinner at a burger place and had the most outstanding veggie burgers! The picture doesn't really do it justice, but it was so scrumptious!

Carlisle and Windermere
Hello! It's been a few days since I have posted, but during some of our travel time today I had the chance to do some writing and blogging, so there will be several posts in a row! :) After our time in Edinburgh, we took the train to two smaller UK destinations, both in England, and we spent one night in each place. Carlisle, our first stop, is most famous for its Roman history and connection with Hadrian's Wall, a wall built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the year 122 AD/CE. Windermere is a town and lake that is part of the Lake District National Park in the UK, and it is well known for beautiful lakes, rolling hills, and cute towns! We did really enjoy our time in these two places, and it was definitely nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. I will say, however, that these two destinations are much more car-friendly places, so if something you see interests you, perhaps look into renting a car (although they do drive on the opposite side of the street!) or booking some sort of tour that will take you to the different sites! Without further ado, here are the pictures!
Our first stop was the Carlisle Cathedral! It was beautiful!
One of the mottos of the town/one of the museums is "Be Just and Fear Not", and I really like this!

Edinburgh
Hello! After our stay in Iceland, we were off to Edinburgh, Scotland! Our flight was relatively late, so we didn't see any of the city the night we first arrived (we got to our hotel around 1am!), but bright and early the next morning we were ready for some sightseeing!
To continue the trend of hiking and visiting natural landscapes, we first visited Arthur's Seat, which is a large landform that overlooks the city and is from volcanic activity. It was a bit of a steep climb, so that was rather challenging, but it gave us a great view of the city (and a sense of where everything was, since we did not yet have a map).
Here are some of the views of the city… this one is from Calton Hill, despite looking like part of Greece or Rome!
This is the Holyrood Palace, where the Queen stays when she is visiting Scotland.
